On Nov. 15th, the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) presented Prof. Langis Roy, who is also an associate dean with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs, with a special certificate representing its 1000th Ontario Engage grant.
The new $25,000 NSERC grant supports Dr. Roy’s research to produce new radiation sensor technology that will help enhance patient safety during radiation treatments for cancer patients.
On hand at the ceremony was PhD student Behzad Yadegari who collaborates with Dr. Roy and Best Medical Canada, their commercial partner, on this research. This story about Yadegari’s research is available on our Current Grad Student website.
At the ceremony, John Thomas, president of Best Medical Canada thanked NSERC for its support. He said: “I wish to ensure you that the investment will bring very demonstrable benefits. It will bring benefits to our company and it will serve to maintain and enhance the university’s leadership in this field of research. It will bring benefits to Canada as well in the creation of future employment opportunities and, contribute in a small but significant way, to the growth of our economy.”
Carleton is one of the top performers per capita for NSERC Engaged awards, placing fourth in the country.
