2014 marks the 60th anniversary of Carleton’s Department of Earth Sciences.

A special celebration on Oct. 18 will feature a pictorial history, a buffet dinner and a performance by Ian Tamblyn, Carleton’s artist-in-residence. Many of Tamblyn’s compositions reflect his wilderness adventures and numerous science expeditions with geologists.

Over the years, Earth Science students have had exciting opportunities participating in field trips to places such as Chile or going on the Students on Ice Expedition to Antarctica.

These projects have allowed the students to do amazing research on site in exotic places. For example, Earth Sciences grad student Alex Quesnel has been conducting his research in Canada’s North.
