The Department of Music and the Department of Law and Legal Studies will be offering coursework-only options effective this fall. Both are two-year programs.

Students interested in the MA in Music and Culture now have three options from which to choose: thesis, research essay and now, a coursework-only option. This new option offers students choices for pursuing their personal musical interests, including Canadian Aboriginal music, classical, popular, folk, world, and children’s musics, as well as music for a variety of media (film, television, and interactive media). The wide selection of courses allows students to investigate a variety of current topics in music, such as music and social justice, technologies of music, music and visual culture, music and religion, and musics of Canada’s first peoples. The coursework-only option also applies to the Specialization in Digital Humanities. Students interested in the coursework-only option have until Aug. 31 to be considered for admission and funding if space and funds are still available. For more information, please visit the website or email gradmusic@carleton.ca.

Students interested in pursuing the MA in Legal Studies will now be able to choose from a thesis, research essay and coursework-only option. Faculty in the law department come from a wide variety of backgrounds – law, history, sociology, anthropology, communications and political science – offering students access to a diverse, interdisciplinary pool of resources. Students interested in the coursework-only option have until July 15 to be considered for admission and funding if space and funds are still available. Earlier applications are strongly encouraged.
