SPPA Takes Gold Medal at National Public Administration Case Competition

Graduate students from the School of Public Policy and Administration (SPPA) defeated eleven teams from across Canada in the 2020 National Public Administration Case Competition. They had just over one week to solve a case study on housing affordability in Canada.

Call for Nominations to the Inaugural Equity and Inclusive Communities (EIC) Advisory Group

President Benoit-Antoine Bacon and the Department of Equity and Inclusive Communities are pleased to announce the formation of the EIC Advisory Group. If you are interested in the strategic enhancement of the work of equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) at Carleton, you are encouraged to respond to this community invitation for members. As a member, you will contribute to a community of practice, participate in the discussion of emerging EDI issues on campus, and collectively represent a strategic incubator of ideas to advance the integration of EDI throughout all core university activities and beyond. There will be no more than three meetings a year. If you are interested, please email EICadvisorygroup@carleton.ca by April 1, with a short statement outlining the reasons for your interest. Awards Reminder

If you have been awarded an Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS), please complete the acceptance form on this website. This form is only for students who cannot complete the online acceptance form, e.g. students with a paper application or students who were not registered in a Graduate program at the time of application.

Results for Tri-Council Master’s recipients should be available in the portal by April 1. NSERC PhD students should hear by the end of March while SSHRC and CIHR PhD students should hear by the end of April. If you still have questions, please email leslie.main@carleton.ca.


TA Training

Important Dates and Deadlines

ACADEMIC DEADLINES

March 18:  Financial holds preventing registration will be applied to accounts with an outstanding balance. In order to prevent delayed registration for Summer 2020 courses, please allow adequate processing time as payments normally take 2 days to be applied to your student account.

March 26:  Carleton Central opens at 8:30 a.m. for summer registration for all Carleton University degree students. Check your time-ticket here.

April 1:  Students wanting to graduate in June must apply before this date.

April 25:  Deadline for fee payment or assignment of funding to ensure payment is processed to your account without incurring a late charge. Payment of fees is due by the posted deadlines.

May 4:  Early summer and full summer courses begin.

May 8:  Graduate students who have not electronically submitted their final thesis copy to the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs will not be eligible to graduate in Spring 2020 and must register for the Summer 2020 term.

Mitacs offers several funding opportunities for graduate students. You can apply any time, except there are two deadline dates each year for the Mitacs Elevate program. Check out:
(a) Mitacs Accelerate (Funding starts at $15,000 for research internships with industry or non-profit partners)
(b) Mitacs Elevate ($57,500 annual grant for two-year postdoctoral fellowships with industry or non-profit partners).
(c) Mitacs Globalink Research (Travel funding for research projects with international universities)

EVENTS

At this time, due to COVID=19, all in-person events have been cancelled at Carleton.


TA DEADLINES

The deadlines to apply for a Leave From Duties are:  April 30 (summer term), Aug. 31 (fall term) and Dec. 31 (winter term). You can access the form via Carleton Central.

Deadlines to apply to be an “out-of-priority” TA are as follows:  April 15 (Spring/Summer term), August 15 (Fall/Winter term) and December 15 (Winter term),

“Pedagogical” training hours must be completed by March 30 for a full academic year TAship or a winter-only TAship.

TAs – Please note that it can take up to two weeks before your attendance at workshops is recorded. You are strongly encouraged to track your progress independently of the TA Management System in order to ensure its accuracy. In the event of a discrepancy, you are responsible for ensuring your training is captured in Carleton Central
