Reminder: Mandatory COVID-19 Screening Requirements
We would like to remind you that under Orders from the Government of Ontario and guidance from public health officials, Carleton is required to implement COVID-19 Screening for all students and employees, including teaching assistants, researchers and postdoctoral fellows. if you are required to come to campus to perform necessary duties and responsibilities or to perform approved research, you must complete the COVID-19 Daily Campus Access and Screening Form every day you plan to come to campus and enter a university building.

Did You Apply to Graduate?
This is another reminder that graduate students who have applied for graduation can download two letters in Carleton Central. The new letters are Confirmation of Application to Graduate and Confirmation of Eligibility to Graduate. Links to automated letters in Carleton Central are found in the Student Online Applications > Apply to Graduate > Applications for Graduation section. More information is available by clicking here.

Workshop Today: "Establish Your Career Narrative"
FGPA continues to offer selected professional development workshops over the summer term. Sign up now for the first of three Establish Your Career Narrative workshops, which will take place today from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Other summer workshops will be added to the calendar as they are scheduled. All graduate students and postdocs are welcome. Because these sessions are being held during the summer term, they do NOT count toward paid pedagogical training hours for Teaching Assistants.

Summer 2021 Athletics Fee Rebate
Due to the current stay-at-home order in the Province of Ontario and the likelihood that we will have limited capacity in Carleton Athletics when we are able to safely reopen our facilities, Carleton University has approved a 50% rebate on the Student Athletics Fee for the Summer 2021 term.

Graduate Student Wins an EDI Research Award
One graduate student is among six students who have won the inaugural Summer 2021 Carleton University Student Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Research Awards. Their EDI-related research projects will be conducted through August in collaboration with faculty supervisors in what is a landmark recognition for EDI scholarship in Ontario higher education.

The Carleton University Board of Governors will be meeting remotely on Tuesday, June 1, 2021. Members of the community are welcome to observe the open session which begins at 3 p.m. Those interested in attending the open session are asked to email the University Secretary (amanda.goth@carleton.ca) by 4 p.m. on May 31, 2021. Report Assesses Pathways to Net Zero Emissions for Critical Sectors of the Economy
It is time for a major shift in the way that we approach the climate problem. That’s the message of a new report entitled Pathways to Net Zero. According to the report’s lead author Carleton Prof. James Meadowcroft, Canada must focus on measures to accelerate the transformation of the large-scale systems of social provisioning, such as the way we produce and distribute energy, move people and goods, and build our cities.

Alumnus André Picard’s New Book Offers Prescription for Change
At the end of April 2021, a report released by Ontario’s Long-Term Care COVID-19 Commission detailed an array of festering challenges that “contributed to deadly consequences for the province’s most vulnerable citizens during the pandemic.” These problems are not news to Carleton Alumnus André Picard, the award-winning Globe and Mail health reporter and columnist.

A Collaboration to Enhance Entrepreneurship and Experiential Learning Education
Educators at Carleton University’s Sprott School of Business and Atlantic Hall have been collaborating to enhance opportunities in entrepreneurship and experiential learning for secondary school students in Nigeria. Since announcing a partnership in November, two initiatives were launched that provided for an exchange of knowledge and experience between the educators, as well as students, from both institutions.

Important Dates and Deadlines
Today, May 20 is the last day for registration and course changes (including auditing) for full summer courses.
The Fall/Winter 2021-22 Class Schedule and registration course planning tool will be available in Carleton Central May 25.
The date for graduate students to electronically submit their final thesis copy to the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs has been extended to May 31. If you have not done so by this date, you will not be eligible to graduate in June and will have to register for the summer 2021 term.
June 18 is the last day of early summer classes. (NOTE: full summer classes resume July 2.) Classes follow a Monday schedule on this day. It’s also the last day for academic withdrawal from early summer courses.
