The Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs is pleased to welcome Dr. James Opp as the new Associate Dean (Student and Postdoctoral Affairs).
Opp is a Professor in the Department of History and Co-Director of the Centre for Public History. Since joining Carleton in 2003, he has published a variety of books and articles on aspects of Canadian cultural and social history, with particular interest in the history of photography and archives, advertising, and public memory. He recently served as the Graduate Advisor for the Department of History and in 2015 he received a Faculty Graduate Mentoring Award. His connection to Carleton began in 1994 when he arrived as a graduate student to pursue a PhD in History. After completing his degree and teaching at the University of Lethbridge for two years, he returned to Carleton in 2003.
Says Opp: “My challenge for the year ahead is to do my best to reduce unseen hurdles for students and to facilitate the best possible graduate experience.”
Opp is replacing Paul Keen during his one-year sabbatical leave.
