For the 23rd consecutive year, the university is pleased to welcome members of the Ceremonial Guard to campus for the summer months.

The Ceremonial Guard is an element of the Canadian Army responsible for fulfilling a number of public duties in Ottawa, most notably the Changing of the Guard ceremony performed daily on Parliament Hill from late June through late August, posting Guards at Rideau Hall, and posting sentries at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

Carleton provides housing, dining services, offices and support facilities to the Ceremonial Guard.

All members of the Ceremonial Guard are trained soldiers. While on campus, their daily training focuses on marching and ceremonial drill, in formations, typically in the areas of parking lots P6 and P7, Anniversary Park and parades on University Drive. Training requires that rifles be carried by uniformed members of the Ceremonial Guard. These rifles are not loaded and the soldiers are fully trained in handling them safely.
