Carleton University’s Bridget Steele a student in the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs (NPSIA), was awarded a prestigious ThinkSwiss Scholarship by the Office of Science, Technology and Higher Education at the Swiss Embassy in Washington, D.C.
The scholarship will support her studies this summer as a visiting scholar at the Centre for Security Studies (CSS), ETH Zurich (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology). ThinkSwiss Scholarships support highly motivated and qualified U.S. and Canadian undergraduate and graduate students to take part in a research experience or to participate in a summer course in Switzerland.
“The ThinkSwiss Scholarship is a truly amazing opportunity,” said Alex Wilner, assistant professor at NPSIA. “Not only will she be joining one the best universities in the world, but she’ll be joining an immensely accomplished cohort of current and previous scholarship holders from across Canada and the United States. This will expand her professional and academic network, which will pay dividends down the road.”
Steele will be part of a research cluster at CSS exploring counter-radicalization, directly applying knowledge she gained studying at Carleton.
“My research this summer will look at countering terrorism in the cyber sphere,” said Steele. “Preventing violent extremism is a highly relevant and timely global issue. The experience and perspective I gain from my time in Zurich will complement and provide added value to the rigorous training and excellent education I am receiving at NPSIA.”
