This year, for the Christmas and New Year holiday season, Carleton University will be closed from noon on Saturday, Dec. 22, 2018 through Jan. 1, 2019 inclusive and will re-open on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2019.

Holiday Building Closures

During the holidays, most campus buildings will be locked.

Authorized faculty, staff and students may gain access using their Campus Card at card readers. Those requiring access to campus buildings should speak with their faculty administrators to arrange access to buildings before the shutdown occurs. Campus Safety Services (CSS) will provide access to buildings on an emergency basis only. The CSS Communication Centre can be reached at 613-520-4444 in emergencies, and 613-520-3612 for general enquiries.

Recreation and Athletics:

The Athletics facilities will be closed Dec. 25, 26, and 31, 2018 and Jan. 1, 2019. The Ice House will be closed on Dec. 25, 2018 and Jan. 1, 2019.

The Ice House will resume its regular hours on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2019.


The following five residence buildings will remain open for the holiday period: Leeds, Prescott, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington, and Glengarry. Only those residents who have registered, received permission and paid to remain will have access to their rooms. Access for all other students will be deactivated as of noon on Dec. 22, 2018 until noon on Jan. 6, 2019. No student will be permitted inside a closed building.

The last meal served in The Caf will be breakfast, until 11 a.m. on Dec. 22, 2018. Leeds, Prescott and Frontenac are suite-style residences with meal preparation areas in each suite. Dining Services will provide a Holiday Pantry program in Prescott’s multi-purpose room for students registered to stay. The first meal served in The Caf for the winter term will be dinner on Jan. 6, 2019.

Food Services:

All dining services on campus will be closed during the holiday season.

Cooling, Heating and Ventilation System Reduction

To support Carleton’s commitment to reducing our energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, the buildings will be operating on a weekend schedule for the cooling, heating and ventilation systems. This schedule reduction will be effective from Dec. 22, 2018 to Jan. 2, 2019.
