Carleton University faculty and students are encouraged to be vigilant after a potential scam promoting job opportunities in exchange for personal information has been spotted on university campuses in Ontario. Clipboards, which do not identify the employer, have been reported to be circulating in lecture halls and classrooms asking for personal information.
At Carleton, official job postings are available through the mySuccess portal on the Career Services website. Students should never give out their personal information and if they receive a clipboard in class, they should notify the instructor.
Career Services offers tips to protect yourself from fraudulent practices. These tips include ensuring the business is clearly identified, that the business makes contact from an official email address, and that you are not asked for financial or personal information without meeting someone from the company.
