There is less than one month until all Carleton courses launch on Brightspace! As of May 6, 2021, Brightspace will officially replace cuLearn as Carleton’s new learning management system (LMS). The new system will provide several key advantages, including a faster, more reliable system and 24/7 technical support.

Get to Know Brightspace
Learning new technology is partly about exploring the tool for yourself. You can log in to the system at using your MC1 credentials and explore the new interface ahead of the official launch. You can also visit the new MediaSpace channel where you’ll find a Brightspace tour from a student perspective and a guide on how to complete a quiz in the new system. More videos are in production and will be available soon.

Brightspace Support
D2L provides on-demand technical support for Brightspace 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, so you’ll be able to get answers to your questions anytime via email, chat and phone. Teaching and Learning Services (TLS) has also developed a Brightspace Student Support website, where you can find documentation on how to navigate and use the system.

Accessing cuLearn Content
Direct access to cuLearn will be maintained throughout 2021 to allow time to review and retrieve student content, such as assignments and grades, as this data will NOT be migrated from cuLearn into Brightspace.

Teaching and Learning Services (TLS) has also developed a Brightspace TA Support website, where you can find documentation on how to navigate and use the system. In May, TA-focused training workshops and resources will be available via Carleton Central and the TA Central Hub course in Brightspace. TLS will also be offering booked consultations for TAs looking for one-on-one assistance. Stay tuned for more details. As always, direct access to past courses in cuLearn is dependent on whether the instructor has kept the course visible. Course access, whether in cuLearn or Brightspace, is at the discretion of the instructor. This means that while you may be able to access and log in to the cuLearn system, previous courses may not be available if the instructor has turned the course off. If the course you are looking for is not available, please contact your instructor directly regarding access and content retrieval.
