Update #5: Wed. Sept. 22, 2021

The reopening of Dunton Tower remains on track for Monday, Sept. 27. The building was closed last week due to a failure in the main air supply fan, which prevented the university from meeting its COVID-19 safety measures for our faculty, staff and students. Please note that the temporary closure of a section of Library Road near Dunton Tower will happen from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 25 and not Friday, Sept. 24, as previously planned. The closure is required to allow for a crane at the site and the installation of a replacement fan on the roof of Dunton Tower. Facilities Management and Planning appreciates your patience.

Update #4: Monday, September 20, 2021 at 3:50 p.m.

Facilities Management and Planning wishes to thank the campus community for its patience as we investigated solutions to allow for the reopening Dunton Tower.

The building was closed last week due to a failure in the main air supply fan, which prevented the university from meeting its COVID-19 safety measures for our faculty, staff and students. It remains closed this week (Monday, September 20 – Friday, September 24).

A rental fan will arrive on campus tomorrow and will be installed later this week, with an expected reopening of Dunton Tower on Monday, September 27. A crane will be on site to install the fan on the roof of the building and this will require a section of Library Road near Dunton Tower to be closed on Friday, September 24. All safety precautions will be in place in the area.

An update will be provided to the community as new information becomes available.

Update:  Dunton Tower Closed Week of Sept. 13

Dunton Tower will remain closed the week of Sept. 13 – 17 inclusive, following an initial assessment of the damage to the main air supply fan conducted over the weekend.

This week, the fan will be dismantled to determine the extent of the damage and repairs required, as well as availability of parts. A long-term plan to replace the supply fan is being developed.

The building is remaining closed for safety reasons as there is no ventilation available without the supply fan.

A further update to the campus will be provided on Friday, Sept. 17.

Facilities Management and Planning appreciates your patience as we address this situation.
