Convocation for the Class of 2020 and the Class of 2021 is now underway. Convocation for the Class of 2022 will be held next week (June 20-24). Information about the ceremonies and graduates is posted on our Convocation website. Graduate Studies would like to congratulate all graduating students!

Fall/Winter Registration
The fall and winter 2022-2023 class schedule and registration course planning tool are available in Carleton Central. Registration for returning students begins on Friday, July 8 based on pre-assigned time tickets. Your exact time ticket will be available on Carleton Central (log in through Carleton360) approximately one week preceding the registration time period.

June is Pride Month
June is Pride Month and it is another opportunity to celebrate and support 2-spirited, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer members of the Carleton community. Throughout June, visit the Pride Month webpage for stories on 2SLGBTQ+ community leaders and find out how Carleton is striving to support greater inclusion throughout all areas of campus life. New content will be added throughout the month.

Celebrating National Indigenous History Month
During National Indigenous History Month, we are celebrating the rich and diverse cultures, voices and experiences of First Nations, Inuit and Métis people who are positively impacting the world. Throughout June, visit the National Indigenous History Month webpage to learn how the Carleton community has taken important steps towards integrating Indigenous history, experiences, and ways of knowing into all areas of campus life and how you can learn and engage in Indigenous history and culture throughout the month and beyond. You can sign up for a one-on-one writing consultation to assist you with writing-related challenges, or to discuss the effectiveness of your research and writing strategies. To request a consultation, please fill out and submit this web form.
The Paul Menton Centre (PMC) is continuing to offer weekly virtual writing support for graduate students with disabilities over the summer. The Graduate Student Writing Group meets every Tuesday, 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. until August 16. Please register here. Before attending, you need to review the PMC group meeting guidelines. Registration with PMC is not essential for participation in this group.

Graduate Students with Disabilities: A Survey of Experiences at Carleton
The Paul Menton Centre (PMC) would like to learn about your experiences as a graduate student with a disability at Carleton University. Please tell us how the PMC can better support your needs by completing this survey by Friday, June 24 to be entered into a draw to win a $50 campus gift card. The PMC intends to use the results from this survey to:
- Identify existing accommodations and supports for graduate students with a disability;
- Identify gaps and systemic barriers limiting access and participation; and
- Collaborate with campus partners to improve accommodations and supports that are more tailored to the needs of graduate students with disabilities at Carleton.

Strategic Plan for Community Engagement Progress Report
The Centre for Community Engagement is leading the development of Carleton’s inaugural Strategic Plan for Community Engagement (SP4CE). Along with the SP4CE Task Force, the Centre published a progress report summarizing the themes and ideas that were discussed in the internal consultations. The next step is to consult with the broader community through external consultations this summer. The Strategic Plan for Community Engagement will be released in the fall.

Inside Senate June 3
The latest edition of Inside Senate is now available. The highlight was the approval of almost 4,000 students for graduation. Senate also discussed Carleton’s inaugural draft digital strategy and received a progress update on the Kinàmàgawin Learning Together Strategy.

I-Start Orientation is a free, online mini-course designed for new international students studying at Carleton University. Construction to Start on the Future Learning Lab in MacOdrum Library
On June 10, construction began on the new Future Learning Lab on the fourth floor of MacOdrum Library and is expected to be completed in October 2022. During the construction, the entire fourth floor will be closed. Once completed, the new space will bring educators and students together to share, research and design thanks to $1 million in funding from the Government of Ontario and a matching contribution from the university.

Research: Helping Canada's North Plan for the Future
As climate change drives up global temperatures, the ice in permafrost is thawing, posing a major threat to Arctic communities, infrastructure and ecosystems, as well as landscapes in other parts of the world. To help Canada and other countries mitigate and adapt to this profound challenge, a network of scientists coordinated by Carleton University—in collaboration with Indigenous communities, industry partners and government agencies—is striving to address a set of interrelated questions: where and when is permafrost thaw occurring and what are the hazards arising from this?

Research: Reflecting on the 50-Year Battle to Save Roe v. Wade
Carleton Political Scientist Professor Melissa Haussman has been researching women’s reproductive rights in North America for at least 20 years. She argues that, if the U.S. Supreme Court decision Roe v. Wade is overturned, it will affect not only abortion access, but women’s health care as a whole.

Researcher of Geek Culture Steps Forward as EDI Advocate
Since the release of his book, Getting a Life: the Social Worlds of Geek Culture, Prof. Benjamin Woo has become a North American leader in the study of comics, fandom and geek media cultures. Woo has also accepted a new assignment as the Faculty of Public Affairs’ inaugural Associate Dean of Equity and Inclusion.

Ericsson Fellow Has a Passion for Formal Methods
James Baak is one of six graduate students who are Ericsson Fellows at Carleton University—a unique, talent-building program born out of the Ericsson-Carleton University Partnership for Research and Leadership in Wireless Networks. Baak and the other fellows are being supported to focus on their pioneering wireless communications research and get input from both their academic supervisors and Ericsson professionals. For Baak, his research specialty is diving into automating formal methods.

Important Dates and Deadlines
June 17
- Last day of early summer classes. (NOTE: full summer classes resume July 4.)
- Classes follow a Monday schedule.
- Last day for academic withdrawal from early summer courses.
- Last day for handing in term assignments, subject to any earlier course deadline.
June 18-19
No classes or examinations take place.
June 20-26
Early summer final examinations and full summer mid-term examinations may be held. Examinations are normally held all seven days of the week.
June 23
Financial holds preventing registration will be applied to accounts with an outstanding balance. In order to prevent delayed registration for fall and winter courses, ensure that Carleton has received payment for your outstanding balance prior to this date. Proof of payment will not be accepted.
July 1
Statutory holiday. University closed.
July 4
Late summer courses begin. Full summer courses resume.
July 11
Last day for registration and course changes (including auditing) for late summer courses.
July 8-13
Carleton Central opens for fall/winter registration for new and returning graduate students (be sure to visit Step 1 of Registration in Carleton Central to view your registration start time).
