Important Dates & Deadlines

TRAINING & CAREER WORKSHOPS

There are only a couple of professional development workshops remaining in this term in Grad Navigate. TAs – it can take up to two weeks before your attendance is recorded and you are credited with your paid training hours. This is because this process is manual and time-consuming.  You are strongly encouraged to track your progress independently of the TA Management System in order to ensure its accuracy. In the event of a discrepancy, you are responsible for ensuring your training is captured in Carleton Central.

Note that EDC’s Winter TA Training Day is Jan. 23.

You can also access online training through MyGradSkills.ca. Please note that these online training modules do not count towards paid training hours for TAs.

ACADEMIC DEADLINES

Dec. 7 – Last day of fall-term classes. Last day for academic withdrawal from fall term courses. Last day to pay any remaining fall tuition fees to avoid a hold on access to marks through Carleton Central and the release of transcripts and other official documents.

Dec. 8 – No classes or examinations take place

Dec. 9 – 21 – Final examinations in fall term courses and mid-term examinations in fall/winter courses may be held. Examinations are normally held all seven days of the week.

Dec. 15 – Fall Co-op Work Term Reports due

Dec. 24 to Jan. 3, 2016 – University closed

Dec. 31 Deadline for TAs to apply for a “leave from duties” for the winter term

Jan. 1 – Deadline to apply to be an “out-of-priority” TA for winter 2016

Jan. 4 – University re-opens

Jan. 6  Winter-term classes begin

Jan. 14 – U-Pass Opt-Out deadline for Winter term

Jan. 19 Last day for registration and also to change courses or sections for winter-term courses.

Jan. 19 – Students who have not deposited (via automated upload) the final copy of their thesis to the office of the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs must register.

AWARDS & COMPETITION DEADLINES

Mitacs offers several funding opportunities for graduate students. You can apply any time, except there are two deadline dates each year for the Mitacs Elevate program. Check out:
(a) Mitacs Accelerate (Funding starts at $15,000 for research internships with industry or non-profit partners)
(b) Mitacs Elevate ($57,500 annual grant for two-year postdoctoral fellowships with industry or non-profit partners)
(c) Mitacs Globalink Research (Travel funding for research projects with international universities)
(d) Mitacs Step (Professional development workshops facilitated by industry leaders

Dec. 3 – Deadline to apply for a Gates Cambridge Scholarship

Dec. 15 – Deadline for ABD PhD students to apply for a GRIT award

Jan. 8, 2016 – Deadline to apply for a Law Foundation Fellowship

Jan. 29, 2016 Annual Autism Awards

Jan. 29, 2016 (5 p.m.) Deadline to apply for the Mitacs JSPS internship

Feb. 1, 2016  Mackenzie King Travelling/Open Scholarship

March 10, 2016 – Dan David Scholarship Deadline (PhDs and PDFs)

TA DEADLINES

The deadlines to apply for a Leave From Duties are: Dec. 31 (winter term) , April 30 (summer term) and Aug. 31 (fall term).  (access form via Carleton Central)

“Pedagogical” training hours must be submitted by March 30 for a full academic year TAship or a winter-only TAship and by Nov. 30 for a fall-only TAship.

Deadline to apply to be an “out-of-priority” TA for the winter term, 2016 is Jan. 1, 2016  Deadline for the fall term is Sept. 1;
