Important Dates and Deadlines


July 24 – Last day to submit to the Paul Menton Centre, for Students with Disabilities, formal examination accommodation forms for August examinations.

July 25 – Last day for a full fee adjustment when withdrawing from late Summer courses (financial withdrawal)

August 1 – Civic holiday, University closed.

August 1 – Last day for graduate students to submit to their thesis supervisor an examination copy of their Master’s or PhD thesis for Fall graduation.

August 25  Fall payment deadline. Click here for important payment information. Late charges may be applied to the student account any time after this date.

September 1 – Last day for receipt of applications from potential fall (November) graduates.

September 5 Statutory holiday. University closed.

September 7 – Fall term begins

September 20 – Last day of registration for fall term and fall/winter term courses.

September 20 Graduate students who have not electronically submitted their final thesis copy to the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs will not be eligible to graduate in Fall 2016 and must register for the fall 2016 term.

September 23-25 – Summer deferred final examinations held.

September 30 – Last day to withdraw from fall term and fall/winter courses with a full fee adjustment (financial withdrawal). Withdrawals after this date will create no financial change to Fall term fees.

Grad Navigate workshops are not available during the summer months. FGPA will start adding new workshops in late August for the fall term.

You can always access online training through Please note that these online training modules workshops do not count towards paid training hours for TAs.


Mitacs offers several funding opportunities for graduate students. You can apply any time, except there are two deadline dates each year for the Mitacs Elevate program. Check out:
(a) Mitacs Accelerate (Funding starts at $15,000 for research internships with industry or non-profit partners)
(b) Mitacs Elevate ($57,500 annual grant for two-year postdoctoral fellowships with industry or non-profit partners).
(c) Mitacs Globalink Research (Travel funding for research projects with international universities)
(d) Mitacs Step (Professional development workshops facilitated by industry leaders

The deadlines to apply for a Leave From Duties are:  Aug. 31 (fall term), Dec. 31 (winter term) and April 30 (summer term)  (access form via Carleton Central)

Deadline to apply to be an “out-of-priority” TA for the fall term is Sept. 1 and for the winter term is Jan. 1, 2017.

“Pedagogical” training hours must be submitted by Nov. 30 for a fall-only TAship and by March 30 for a full academic year TAship or a winter-only TAship.

TAs – Please note that it can take up to two weeks before your attendance is recorded and you are credited with your paid training hours. This is because this process is manual and time-consuming.  You are strongly encouraged to track your progress independently of the TA Management System in order to ensure its accuracy. In the event of a discrepancy, you are responsible for ensuring your training is captured in Carleton Central.
