In Celebration of International Women's Day

Women continue to experience discrimination based on their gender and intersecting identities, which is exacerbated for racialized women, women with disabilities, trans women and those with marginalized gender identities. On International Women’s Day (March 8), Carleton celebrated the many achievements and contributions of women in the Carleton community. Worried About Filing Your Taxes This Year?

The Sprott Tax Students’ Association (STSA) is here to help with their annual tax clinic. To file your taxes with the tax clinic, you must first fill out the tax clinic’s client intake form. STSA’s tax clinic team will review it to determine whether it is within the scope of the tax clinic. You will receive an email indicating whether your tax return is simple enough to be filed with the tax clinic and you will then be given a link to book an appointment. Note: all appointments at the tax clinic will be held between March 21 and April 1, 2022. For more information, please visit the tax clinic’s webpage. All tax returns are filed at no cost. The tax clinic is run as a free community service.

Graduate students will be informed of their scholarship status by the following approximate dates:

  • OGS:  End of March
  • NSERC PhD:  End of April
  • SSHRC PhD:  End of April
  • CIHR PhD:  End of April
  • CGS Master’s (all):  April 1 through the portal

Call for Nominations for the Outstanding TA Awards

The TLS Outstanding TA Award is a university-wide award open to all faculties, and is designed to celebrate the support TAs give to the undergraduate programs in their disciplines, their roles in establishing a positive learning environment, and their work in implementing innovative teaching practices. In addition to a certificate and formal recognition on a special plaque, up to five awards valued at $250 will be given out each year. For more information on the nomination process as well as the form to fill out and submit, please click here. Deadline for nominations is March 28.

The Psychology Wellness Centre is a virtual centre staffed by psychology graduate students who are trained peer wellness coaches. If you are looking for non-urgent assistance with goal-setting, time-management, support to improve wellness goals, and information on other available wellness services at Carleton please complete this request form to meet with a peer wellness coach.


MeWeRTH: Lived Experience Luncheon Series

MeWeRTH is continuing its Lived Experience Luncheon series in March, where we invite members in our community to present on their lived experience, highlighting any challenges they encountered and their resiliency in facing these challenges. The presentations will be virtual and open to the Carleton community as well as the public. Please join us from noon to 1 p.m. on March 23 and March 30. How Can the Office of Student Affairs Support Your Well-Being?

You are invited to attend a workshop for grad students today, Thursday, March 10 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. You will be able to share your experiences as a grad student, as well as discuss gaps in terms of support for wellness (including resources and workshops) particularly when it comes to the Office of Student Affairs programming. This is also an opportunity to meet other graduate students. You can register at this link. If you are unable to attend at that time, you will be able to provide your reflections using this form.


Draft Student Mental Health Framework 2022-2026

We are continuing to accept feedback from all members of the Carleton community on the draft Student Mental Health Framework until Friday, March 18, 2022. Feedback and comments can be submitted either on the consultation website, or by email at SMHFramework@carleton.ca.


Sexual Violence Policy Review Feedback Session

As we continue the review process for Carleton’s Sexual Violence Policy and after carefully reviewing the feedback provided, we have published a draft version of the revised policy with tracked changes. Additionally, and as part of our commitment to providing a transparent process, we have posted a report outlining the feedback we received throughout the listening phase. Both documents are available on the consultation website. Students are encouraged to review the revised draft of the policy and provide additional feedback and comments by attending an information and feedback session on Monday, March 21, 2022 or by submitting feedback through the consultation website or by email at svpolicy@carleton.ca. Feedback on the revised draft of the policy will continue to be collected until Friday, April 8, 2022.


Reminder that Nominations for Board of Governors Awards Are Now Open

Founders Award: The Board of Governors has issued its 2022 Call for Nominations for the Founders Award, Carleton’s highest non-academic honour. Do you know someone deserving? Nominate them today and help pay tribute to those whose significant contributions have led to the advancement of Carleton University. Nominations are being accepted until March 25. Learn more

Board of Governors Award for Outstanding Community Achievement: The Board of Governors’ Award recognizes the substantial community contribution and volunteerism of a Carleton student graduating in 2022. In line with the Board’s belief in creating civically engaged citizens through higher education, the award recipient will also receive a $2,000 grant. Nominations are welcome from all community members. The deadline to apply is March 25, 2022. Learn more.

28th Annual Underhill Graduate Symposium

Join us on Friday March 18 from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. for the annual Underhill Colloquium. The Underhill 2022 theme, (Re)thinking History, is meant to showcase work going beyond the traditional bounds of academia including the sources being studied, the way we work, how we approach archives, how we share our work, the themes we consider and the communities involved. Data Day 8.0 Coming up March 29

You’re invited to attend the eighth annual Data Day conference on March 29. Researchers from across the university will be participating in panel discussions throughout the day and several students will be participating in the virtual poster competition and/or the industry networking portion of the event. Nine Experiential Learning Projects Awarded Funding

Nine projects have been awarded funding through the second round of the 2021-22 Carleton University Experiential Learning Fund (CUELF) to create and enhance experiential learning opportunities for Carleton students. In total, $100,000 in funding was distributed to create and enhance 20 course and program level projects.

Carleton Joins UAlberta internship program supporting Black students in STEM

An internship program developed at the University of Alberta to support and encourage Black youth in a career in science, technology, engineering and math is expanding. The Experiential Learning in Innovation, Technology and Entrepreneurship (ELITE) Program for Black Youth will be offered through a partnership with Carleton University’s Faculty of Engineering and Design in Ottawa this summer.

Research: Preparing for Space Travel

Shawn Graham, a digital archaeologist and historian at Carleton, is working with the International Space Station Archaeological Project to record and analyze the rich material culture onboard the International Space Station. “We are documenting this not only to preserve the past, but also to understand what it means to be human,” says Graham.

Are You Coming on Campus?

Anyone coming on campus must still complete the COVID-19 screening self-assessment every day through cuScreen. You will also need to use a QR code when you enter buildings. And you need to complete and submit the vaccination attestation form which you can find in cuScreen after you have logged in.

Important Dates and Deadlines

April 1
Students who are graduating in Spring 2022 are required to complete the Graduation Application available in Carleton Central (via Carleton360) before the deadline of April 1, 2022.

April 12

  • Last day to pay any remaining balance on your Student Account to avoid a hold on access to marks through Carleton Central and the release of transcripts and other official documents. An account balance may delay summer 2022 course selection.
  • Winter term ends.
  • Last day of winter term and fall/winter classes.
  • Last day for academic withdrawal from winter term and fall/winter courses.
