Summer Term
Carleton Central opens at 8:30 a.m. today, March 24 for registration for Carleton University degree students. Be sure to visit Step 1 of Registration in Carleton Central to view your registration start time.
Fees for the Summer 2022 term should be available by the end of March. Fees for the Fall 2021-Winter 2022 academic year should be posted late May or early June.

Work Continues on the LRT Trillium Line
Carleton University has been notified of construction delays on the LRT Trillium Line that services the university. As a result, the O-Train Line 2 will remain closed for at least the remainder of 2022. During this extended closure, Line 2 buses will continue to provide service between South Keys and Bayview Stations, with stops on Campus Avenue and University Drive at Carleton. The university is continuing discussions with the city to ensure appropriate levels of bus service to the Carleton campus during the 2022-2023 academic year. Students are encouraged to keep up-to-date with bus service alerts from OC Transpo.

Still Time to Enter the 3MT and/or GRADflix
You can still participate in the Three Minute Thesis (3MT) and GRADflix competitions, sponsored by the Graduate Studies. Why not enter and tell your research story? One-on-one assistance is available. The 3MT is scheduled for April 6 and GRADflix will be held a couple of weeks later. If you are interested in competing in either contest, please click here.

Professionalize Yourself
Need Help With Your Income Tax?
The Sprott Tax Students’ Association is offering its annual tax clinic. If interested, you must first fill out the tax clinic’s client intake form. You will then receive an email indicating whether your tax return fits the scope of the clinic and, if so, you will be given a link to book an appointment. All appointments will be held between March 21 and April 1. For more information, please visit the this web page. The tax clinic is run as a free community service.

Need a Listening Ear?
As we move closer to the end of term, you may be feeling stressed out. There are several health and counselling resources that graduate students can access. Please click here to see these resources. There are lots of other resources available to you.
The Psychology Wellness Centre is a virtual centre staffed by psychology graduate students who are trained peer wellness coaches. If you are looking for non-urgent assistance with goal-setting, time-management, support to improve wellness goals, and information on other available wellness services at Carleton please complete this request form to meet with a peer wellness coach.

Award Information
Graduate students will be informed of their scholarship status by the following approximate dates:
- OGS: End of March
- NSERC PhD: End of April
- SSHRC PhD: End of April
- CIHR PhD: End of April
- CGS Master’s (all): April 1 through the portal
Nominations are still open for two Board of Governors awards. The nomination deadline for both is March 25. The Founders Award is Carleton’s highest non-academic honour. Help pay tribute to those whose significant contributions have led to the advancement of Carleton University. Learn more. And the Board of Governors’ Award for Outstanding Community Achievement recognizes the substantial community contribution and volunteerism of a Carleton student graduating in 2022. The award recipient will receive a $2,000 grant. Find out more.
The Teaching and Learning Services Outstanding TA Award celebrates the support TAs give to the undergraduate programs in their disciplines, their roles in establishing a positive learning environment, and their work in implementing innovative teaching practices. Up to five awards, valued at $250, are given out. For more information, please click here. Deadline for nominations is March 28.
The Student Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Research Award provides student funding of $10,000 to $15,000 for EDI-informed research supervised by a faculty member. One graduate student award is available for this summer (May 1 to August 30). Applications are due April 8 at 5 p.m. You need to provide a letter of support from a faculty member indicating their willingness to supervise your project. Additional details, including project eligibility and application instructions, are available on the Provost’s website.

Your Chance to Serve on a Senate Standing Committee
The Carleton Senate is seeking graduate students to serve on a variety of Senate Standing Committees for a one-year term, beginning July 1, 2022. Have an area of expertise you’d like to build upon? A full list of the committee vacancies can be found on the nominations page. Interested applicants are asked to complete the online nominations form by March 31. Final Reminder re. Feedback on the Revised Sexual Violence Policy
Carleton has published a draft version of the revised Sexual Violence Policy with tracked changes. As part of our commitment to providing a transparent process, we have posted a report outlining the feedback we received throughout the listening phase. Both documents are available on the consultation website. Students are encouraged to review the revised draft of the policy and provide additional feedback and comments by submitting feedback through the consultation website or by email at svpolicy@carleton.ca. Feedback on the revised draft of the policy will continue to be collected until Friday, April 8, 2022.

Information for International Students
As an international student enrolled in classes at Carleton, you must be covered under the University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP). If, however, you have OHIP, RAMQ (Quebec provincial insurance), other provincial coverage, or coverage with your Embassy, then UHIP is not required. If you have medical health coverage under one of those plans, please email proof along with your Carleton ID number to uhip@carleton.ca.
If you have been taking online classes from outside Canada this term you may also be eligible for a UHIP refund. Complete our opt-out form and, upon approval, the fee will be removed and credited to your student account.

Carleton’s Sprott School of Business and LGBT+ Chamber of Commerce Create New Partnership
Carleton University’s Sprott School of Business and Canada’s LGBT+ Chamber of Commerce (CGLCC) are working together to develop an inclusive entrepreneurial ecosystem to support the growth and success of LGBTQ2S+ owned businesses and entrepreneurs. Through this partnership, Sprott and CGLCC will co-create curricula that include experiential learning, new venture development and case studies. It will also provide business students the opportunity to participate in professional development and networking events organized by CGLCC.

Carleton Team Places First in National Public Administration Student Case Competition
Recently, Carleton University’s SPPA team won the gold medal for their presentation on the case study A Wicked Problem? Rough Sleeping in Cities at the National Public Administration Student Case Competition. The team spent almost two months analyzing different cases and developing an array of policy solutions for each case.

Grad Student Podcast: "Invisible Institutions"
Invisible Institutions is a new documentary podcast exploring the past and present of institutions for people labelled with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Canada. Creator and host Carleton grad student Megan Linton investigates the unreported and “invisibilized” harms of the institutional system. Join her on her journey that includes interviews with survivors, community activists and experts, as they work together to expose the exploitation, isolation, resistance and survival facing people labeled with disabilities. March 31 is the International Transgender Day of Visibility
Dr. Cáel M. Keegan is an affiliated faculty member at the Transgender Media Lab, offering students his expertise and a critical trans studies perspective to help enrich their modeling of trans-centered (vs. trans “inclusive”) digital platforms. He is also the 2021-22 Fulbright Distinguished Research Chair of Arts and Social Sciences. His work focuses on the study of world-shaping aesthetic forms, media representation, and the cultural production of transgender and queer people.

Upcoming Events
You’re invited to attend the eighth annual Data Day conference on March 29. Researchers from across the university will be participating in panel discussions throughout the day and several students will be participating in the virtual poster competition and/or the industry networking portion of the event. MeWeRTH is continuing its Lived Experience Luncheon series in March, where they invite members in our community to present on their lived experience, highlighting any challenges they encountered and their resiliency in facing these challenges. Registration for the March 30 event is available online.
On April 8, 6 to 9 p.m., the Society for Neuroscience Ottawa Chapter is back for its annual Brain and Mental Health Art show in Support of the Dave Smith Youth Treatment Centre. If you would like to donate or display your artwork, please fill out this online submission form. Deadline to submit art is March 28. The Art Show will be taking place at the Horticulture Building at Lansdowne. Admission is $10 at the door (cash only). For more information about the Art Show, please visit this website.

Today, March 24

April 1
Students who are graduating in Spring 2022 are required to complete the Graduation Application available in Carleton Central (via Carleton360) before the deadline of April 1, 2022.
April 12
- Last day to pay any remaining balance on your Student Account to avoid a hold on access to marks through Carleton Central and the release of transcripts and other official documents. An account balance may delay summer 2022 course selection.
- Winter term ends.
- Last day of winter term and fall/winter classes.
- Last day for academic withdrawal from winter term and fall/winter courses.
April 25
Summer term payment deadline. Visit the Student Accounts website for important payment information. Late payment charges and late registration charges apply to the student account on or after this date. OSAP entitlements must be available by this date in order to be eligible for the OSAP deferral. Calculate Amount to Pay will inform students if they have been granted this deferral.
The summer 2022 class schedule is available in Carleton Central and via the public class schedule. Instructors were posted on March 14 and room information will be available on April 25. Registration information, including timetickets and important dates for the summer 2022 term, are posted at carleton.ca/registrar/registration
