Winter 2022 COVID-19 Measures Update
If you have not already done so, please read this full message distributed to you on Feb. 24 re. an update about Carleton’s plans for the winter 2022 term.
Anyone coming on campus must still complete the COVID-19 screening self-assessment every day through cuScreen. You will also need to use a QR code when you enter buildings. And you need to complete and submit the vaccination attestation form. You can find the form in cuScreen after you have logged in.

Need help? Someone to talk to? There are several health and counselling resources that graduate students can access. Please click here to see these resources. There are lots of other resources available to you.
The Psychology Wellness Centre is a virtual centre staffed by psychology graduate students who are trained peer wellness coaches. If you are looking for non-urgent assistance with goal-setting, time-management, support to improve wellness goals, and information on other available wellness services at Carleton please complete this request form to meet with a peer wellness coach.

Office of Student Affairs Graduate Student Success: How Can We Support Your Well-Being?
On Thursday, March 10 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., you are invited to attend a workshop for grad students. You will be able to share your experiences as a grad student, as well as discuss gaps in terms of support for wellness (including resources and workshops) particularly when it comes to the Office of Student Affairs programming. This is also an opportunity to meet other graduate students. You can register at this link. If you are unable to attend at that time, you will be able to provide your reflections using this form.

MeWeRTH: Lived Experience Luncheon Series
MeWeRTH is continuing the Lived Experience Luncheon series in March, where we invite members in our community to present on their lived experience, highlighting any challenges they encountered and their resiliency in facing these challenges. The presentations will be virtual and open to the Carleton community as well as the public. Please join us from noon to 1 p.m. on March 9, March 23 and March 30. Sexual Policy Review Drafting Phase
As previously announced in the fall, we launched a broad and inclusive consultation process to review the Sexual Violence Policy. This review is conducted every three years to fulfill the provincial mandate and to help us to ensure our policy is as responsive and supportive to the community as possible. We have now published a draft version of the revised Sexual Violence Policy with tracked changes. We encourage you to review the revised draft of the policy and to provide additional feedback and comments either on the consultation website or by email at svpolicy@carleton.ca.

Student Mental Health Framework Consultation 2021-22
As previously announced, we are updating our Student Mental Health Framework (SMHF). This update is an important component of Carleton’s ongoing efforts towards striving for wellness. We encourage all members of the Carleton community to review the updated draft SMHF and to provide additional feedback and comments. Click here for more information. Nominations for Board of Governors Awards Now Open
Founders Award: The Board of Governors has issued its 2022 Call for Nominations for the Founders Award, Carleton’s highest non-academic honour. Do you know someone deserving? Nominate them today and help pay tribute to those whose significant contributions have led to the advancement of Carleton University. Nominations are being accepted until March 25. Learn more
Board of Governors Award for Outstanding Community Achievement: The Board of Governors’ Award recognizes the substantial community contribution and volunteerism of a Carleton student graduating in 2022. In line with the Board’s belief in creating civically engaged citizens through higher education, the award recipient will also receive a $2,000 grant. Nominations are welcome from all community members. The deadline to apply is March 25, 2022. Learn more.

The latest edition of Inside Senate is now available. Senate approved the graduation of over 1,300 Carleton students – 983 undergraduate and 355 graduate students. Senate also approved a number of new program streams and concentrations.

New Ericsson Chair in 5G Wireless Research at Carleton Receives $2-Million to Develop 5G to its Full Potential
5G is a new system being built from the ground up that will modernize applications in industries such as health care, agriculture, transportation, robotics and autonomous vehicles. The Ericsson-Carleton University Partnership for Research and Leadership in 5G Wireless Networks has established a new $2-million Ericsson Chair in 5G Wireless Research to explore solutions to the real-world application challenges of 5G.

Why Now? What Vladimir Putin Has to Gain in a War with Ukraine

Research: Uncovering the Universe’s Secrets and Driving Real-World Applications at CERN
For nearly seven decades, CERN—the European Organization for Nuclear Research, based in Geneva—has been at the forefront of world-changing innovations. The main focus at CERN is normally the Large Hadron Collider particle accelerator, where the ATLAS detector is one of four flagship experiments. The 5,500-plus scientists, engineers and technicians who work on ATLAS, including nearly three dozen from Carleton, are addressing questions such as “What are the fundamental forces of nature?” Due to the onset of Covid, the vast scope was expanded.

Research: Challenging the Cosmetics Industry’s Colonial Construct of Beauty
Women of colour around the world are socialized into thinking that beauty means lighter skin. Through marketing, celebrity culture or social media filters, the aspiration to be brighter, lighter and glowing—encouraged throughout the cosmetics industry—continues to be fuelled by centuries-old racism. Amina Mire, associate professor of Studies in Race and Ethnicity in Carleton’s Department of Sociology and Anthropology, has been vocalizing the harmful effects of these colonial constructs of beauty through her research for more than 20 years.

- Last day to pay any remaining balance on your Student Account to avoid a hold on access to marks through Carleton Central and the release of transcripts and other official documents. An account balance may delay summer 2022 course selection.
- Winter term ends.
- Last day of winter term and fall/winter classes.
- Last day for academic withdrawal from winter term and fall/winter courses.
