The Indigenous Graduate Student Award is awarded to Canadian First Nation, Metis or Inuit Master’s or Doctoral graduate students. Selection is based on demonstrated financial need and academic merit. Applicants need to provide supporting documentation to verify ancestry. This “proof of ancestry” documentation should be uploaded in their application as a supporting letter. To apply, go to Carleton Central (under “financial aid and awards” and then “online graduate award applications”) and search under the correct name. Deadline to apply is Feb. 28, 2022. Note: Recipients from the Fall 2021 award competition are not eligible for the Winter 2022 awards.

Counselling and Other Resources

Need help? Someone to talk to? There are several health and counselling resources that graduate students can access. Please click here to see these resources. There are lots of other resources available to you.

The Psychology Wellness Centre is a virtual centre staffed by psychology graduate students who are trained peer wellness coaches. If you are looking for non-urgent assistance with goal-setting, time-management, support to improve wellness goals, and information on other available wellness services at Carleton please complete this request form to meet with a peer wellness coach.


Draft Student Mental Health Framework 2022-2026 Feedback Sessions

A draft version of the updated Student Mental Health Framework has been published, following feedback received through the listening phase. We encourage students to review the updated draft framework and to provide additional feedback and comments through upcoming information and feedback sessions on Tuesday, March 1 or Thursday, March 3. If you are unable to attend a session, you can provide feedback through the online form on the consultation website.

For International Students

International students experiencing financial hardship are eligible to apply to the International Student Relief Fund. The Fund is designed to provide emergency financial assistance to Carleton international students in Canada experiencing short term hardship who are not eligible for federal pandemic financial support. The funding is meant to cover an unforeseeable financial crisis and does not cover expenses relating to travel, rent, student fees, debts, anticipated future financial hardship, or costs that are related to being an academic student. Convocation Update

Carleton is planning to host in-person Convocation ceremonies for our graduates in June, subject to public health guidelines. We look forward to giving the graduating classes of 2020, 2021 and 2022 the well-deserved opportunity to cross the stage to the cheers of their loved ones.

Stopping Cyber Attacks Today and Tomorrow

In the not-too-distant future, a new generation of powerful computers will transform our world in myriad ways, from advances in medical and pharmaceutical research and more accurate climate modelling to faster data processing in areas such as artificial intelligence and the financial sector. But the very same revolutionary technology that promises to enhance so many aspects of our lives could also be used to perpetrate dangerous and debilitating cyberattacks. Stepping up to this challenge is Carleton economics graduate James Nguyen, who co-founded Quantropi, a cybersecurity startup that specializes in quantum security.

Grad Student Research: Environmental Pollutants and Diabetes

Do certain pollutants cause or contribute to the onset of diabetes? That’s what researchers in Prof. Jenny Bruin’s lab are trying to determine. Bruin, herself, thinks there is a link. Meet two of her PhD students: Kyle Van Allen and Jana Palaniyandi.

Coming on Campus?

Anyone now coming on campus must complete the COVID-19 screening self-assessment every day through cuScreen. You will also need to use a QR code when you enter buildings. And you need to complete the vaccination attestation form and submit this as soon as possible. You can find the form in cuScreen after you have logged in.

Important Dates and Deadlines

Until Feb. 25:  Winter Break continues. Classes are suspended.

March 1:  Last day for graduate students to submit their supervisor-approved thesis, in examinable form to their supervisor.

April 1
Last day for receipt of applications from potential spring (June) graduates.

April 12

  • Last day to pay any remaining balance on your Student Account to avoid a hold on access to marks through Carleton Central and the release of transcripts and other official documents. An account balance may delay summer 2022 course selection.
  • Winter term ends.
  • Last day of winter term and fall/winter classes.
  • Last day for academic withdrawal from winter term and fall/winter courses.
