Reminder - Scholarship Balance

If you are eligible to receive a scholarship balance, you can request your balance through Carleton Central by clicking on the request refund link. Depending on the amount of your scholarship balance, you will have up to four options: campus card transfer, e-transfer, cheque, or donate to Carleton. If you have any questions, please contact Student Accounts at: student_accounts@carleton.ca or phone 613-520-2600 ext. 3626.


When Will I Find Out About My Award Application?

Graduate students will be informed of their scholarship status by the following:

  • OGS:  Last week of February
  • NSERC PhD:  End of March
  • SSHRC PhD:  End of April
  • CIHR PhD:  End of April
  • CGS Master’s (all): April 1 through the portal

You have until Feb. 20 at 4:30 p.m. to submit a nomination for the Board of Governors Award for Outstanding Community Achievement. The award is worth $2,000. You can nominate yourself or another student.

Important Dates and Deadlines

ACADEMIC DEADLINES

February 17:  April examination schedule available online.

February 20:  Statutory holiday, University closed.

February 20-24:  Winter Break. Classes are suspended.

March 1:  Last day for UHIP refund applications for International Students who will be graduating this academic year.

March 1:  Last day for receipt of applications from potential spring (June) graduates.

March 10:  Last day to request formal exam accommodations for December examinations to the Paul Menton Centre for Students with Disabilities. Late requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

March 20Last day to pay any remaining balance on your Student Account to avoid a hold on access to marks through Carleton Central and the release of transcripts and other official documents.  An account balance may delay Summer 2017 course selection.

TRAINING & CAREER WORKSHOPS

Grad Navigate workshops are posted for this term. You can always access online training through MyGradSkills.ca. Please note that these online training modules workshops do not count towards paid training hours for TAs.

You might want to consider the next Media Training workshop – you need to register in advance.
Tuesday, Feb. 28 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in 617 Southam.

For those entering the Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition, there are two training sessions: Feb. 15 from 1-3 p.m. and Feb. 16  from 10-12 a.m.


AWARDS & COMPETITION DEADLINES

Mitacs offers several funding opportunities for graduate students. You can apply any time, except there are two deadline dates each year for the Mitacs Elevate program. Check out:
(a) Mitacs Accelerate (Funding starts at $15,000 for research internships with industry or non-profit partners)
(b) Mitacs Elevate ($57,500 annual grant for two-year postdoctoral fellowships with industry or non-profit partners).
(c) Mitacs Globalink Research (Travel funding for research projects with international universities)
(d) Mitacs Step (Professional development workshops facilitated by industry leaders

February 1:  Deadline to apply for a Mackenzie King scholarship

February 20 (4:30 p.m.):  Deadline to submit a nomination for the 2016-17 Carleton U. Board of Governors Award for Outstanding Community Achievement

March 6:  Deadline to apply for the Adrian D.C. Chan award for Volunteer and Community Service

March 6Deadline to apply for the Canada-China Scholars’ Exchange Program

March 6:  How would you make Ontario better? Deadline to enter the Lieutenant Governor’s Visionaries Prize.

March 10:  Deadline to apply for a Dan David scholarship

TA DEADLINES

The deadlines to apply for a Leave From Duties are:  April 30 (summer term)  (access form via Carleton Central), Aug. 31 (fall term) and Dec. 31 (winter term).

Deadline to apply to be an “out-of-priority” TA for the fall term 2017 is Sept. 1 and for the winter term 2018 is Jan. 1.

“Pedagogical” training hours must be completed by March 30 for a full academic year TAship or a winter-only TAship and by Nov. 30 for a fall-only TAship.

TAs – Please note that it can take up to two weeks before your attendance at workshops is recorded. You are strongly encouraged to track your progress independently of the TA Management System in order to ensure its accuracy. In the event of a discrepancy, you are responsible for ensuring your training is captured in Carleton Central.
