GSA Elections and Health Plan Referendum March 21-23

The Graduate Students’ Association is asking all graduate students to vote in the elections, as well as an important Health Plan referendum, on March 21-23. Information on the candidates and when and where to vote is available on the GSA’s election web page. There will also be an all-candidates forum with free pizza at noon on March 16 in 600 University Centre.

Important Dates and Deadlines

ACADEMIC DEADLINES

March 20Last day to pay any remaining balance on your Student Account to avoid a hold on access to marks through Carleton Central and the release of transcripts and other official documents.  An account balance may delay Summer 2017 course selection. Allow adequate processing time as payments normally take 2 days to be applied to your student account.

March 23:  Carleton Central opens at 8:30 a.m. for registration for Carleton University degree students (graduate and undergraduate).  Check your timeticket here.

April 7:  Winter term ends. Last day of fall/winter and winter-term classes. Last day for academic withdrawal from fall/winter and winter term courses.

April 10-25:  Final examinations in winter term and fall/winter courses may be held. Examinations are normally held all 7 days of the week.

April 14:  Statutory holiday, University closed.

April 25:  Deadline for fee payment or assignment of funding to ensure payment is processed to your account without incurring a late charge. Payment of fees is due by the posted deadlines.

May 1Early summer and full summer courses begin.

May 5:  Graduate students who have not electronically submitted their final thesis copy to the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs will not be eligible to graduate in Spring 2017.

May 8:  Last day for registration and course changes (including auditing) for early summer courses.

May 12:  Last day for registration and course changes (including auditing) for full summer courses.

May 17-28:  Fall/Winter and Winter term deferred final examinations will be held.

May 19:  Last day for a full fee adjustment when withdrawing from early and full summer courses (financial withdrawal).

May 22:  Statutory holiday, University closed.

TRAINING & CAREER WORKSHOPS

Grad Navigate workshops are posted for this term. You can always access online training through MyGradSkills.ca. Please note that these online training modules workshops do not count towards paid training hours for TAs.

Mitacs offers several funding opportunities for graduate students. You can apply any time, except there are two deadline dates each year for the Mitacs Elevate program. Check out:
(a) Mitacs Accelerate (Funding starts at $15,000 for research internships with industry or non-profit partners)
(b) Mitacs Elevate ($57,500 annual grant for two-year postdoctoral fellowships with industry or non-profit partners).
(c) Mitacs Globalink Research (Travel funding for research projects with international universities)
(d) Mitacs Step (Professional development workshops facilitated by industry leaders

TA DEADLINES

The deadlines to apply for a Leave From Duties are: April 30 (summer term)  (access form via Carleton Central), Aug. 31 (fall term) and Dec. 31 (winter term).

Deadline to apply to be an “out-of-priority” TA are as follows: August 15 (Fall/Winter term), December 15 (Winter term) and April 15 (Spring/Summer term).

“Pedagogical” training hours must be completed by March 30 for a full academic year TAship or a winter-only TAship and by Nov. 30 for a fall-only TAship.

TAs – Please note that it can take up to two weeks before your attendance at workshops is recorded. You are strongly encouraged to track your progress independently of the TA Management System in order to ensure its accuracy. In the event of a discrepancy, you are responsible for ensuring your training is captured in Carleton Central.
