Progress Towards Launch of the New Future Learning Lab in Winter Term

The renewal is well underway on the fourth floor of MacOdrum Library, bringing Teaching and Learning Services closer to the launch of the new Future Learning Lab at Carleton! The lab will add many new student study spaces, and be the place to connect, collaborate and innovate in teaching and learning.

A number of construction milestones have been achieved, including updates to ventilation and installation of the new carpet. This was a critical step, as more than 1,000 pieces of new furniture will be arriving on the floor and the installers couldn’t begin furniture assembly on unfinished floors. Over the next few weeks, the washrooms will be finished, electrical completed and paint applied. We anticipate reaching the milestone of “substantial completion” at the end of November or early December, giving us most of December to complete the AV and finishing touches.

It’s looking very positive for us to welcome the community to the new space at the start of the winter term!

Update on Transcripts for Awards Applications

Tri-agency Awards (NSERC/SSHRC/CIHR)
Canada’s three granting agencies—the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC)—acknowledge that the widespread disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic may hinder the ability of some institutions to provide applicants with official and up-to-date transcripts in advance of the deadline date, particularly at institutions which do not currently provide official electronic versions of these documents. Therefore, for the Fall 2022 scholarships and fellowships competitions, the agencies will continue to accept unofficial transcripts if official transcripts cannot be obtained. Submission of an application will continue to serve as a formal attestation that the applicant has provided true, complete, and accurate information in the application and its related documents. Students are expected to make every effort to provide official where possible. Tri-agencies may request official hard copies at a later date and students may be required to submit official hard copies to Graduate Studies if they are successful recipients of an award. Students will be contacted at a later date if needed.
