Nominations are now open for our annual Faculty Graduate Mentoring Awards! We love to hear about how a professor has impacted your experience at Carleton and tell others how valuable mentors can be!

GSA is Hiring

The Graduate Students’ Association (GSA) is hiring three part-time positions open to graduate students as Office Administrators. The deadline is Nov. 29 at midnight. Click here for details.


TA Central Hub: Pedagogical Training Deadline is November 30

  • The deadline to fulfill pedagogical training for Fall 2022 is Nov. 30, 2022. Note that pedagogical training is voluntary, and graduate students with 65 hours + TAships are eligible for up to 5 hours of paid training per academic year.
  • There are other ways to obtain training hours aside from attending live workshops. We have added various recordings of live workshops along with quick quizzes to take in order to get your attendance tracked. These recordings and quizzes can be found in our Resources section under Recorded Workshops (Pedagogical Training).
  • Note: It takes a few days for the recorded sessions to show up on your TA Training Transcripts and we will continue to offer live workshops in the Winter 2023 term.

Verifying TA Training Transcripts:

  • For those who have already attended live workshops or watched videos and taken quizzes, please verify that these have been recorded on your TA Training Transcript. These can be accessed through Carleton Central > TA Management > TA Training Transcript. If you notice any training sessions have not been added to your transcript, please e-mail us:TASupport@cunet.carleton.ca

Richard Van Loon Scholarship

The Richard Van Loon Scholarship has been created to reward an outstanding international student from an African country. Eligible recipients must be a full-time student proceeding from one year to another in any program at Carleton University with a valid study permit. Consideration will be given to students in financial need.  More details and application form can be found here.


Carleton Researchers Rank in Top 1% Globally

The annual Highly Cited Researchers List from Clarivate Analytics includes three Carleton University researchers – Steven J. Cooke, Peter Xiaoping Liu and Lenore Fahrig who also recently received the NSERC Gerhard Herzberg Canada Gold Medal for Science and Engineering. Those on the list have demonstrated significant influence in their chosen fields through the publication of multiple, highly-cited papers over the last decade.

Apply to Teach an EMCP Course - Deadline is December 2

The Enrichment Mini-Courses Program (EMCP) provides high achieving students from grades 8 to 11 with the chance to experience Carleton University for a one-week enriched learning experience.

The Undergraduate Recruitment Office is currently looking for enthusiastic faculty and graduate students who are interested in teaching an EMCP course to a group of bright young students during the first week of May 2023. Learn more about the roles and responsibilities of an EMCP Course Instructor.

Submit an EMCP course proposal on a subject you are passionate about teaching! Deadline to apply is Friday, Dec. 2, 2022.


Tri-Agency Doctoral Award Annual Progress Report

Any PhD student who holds a tri-council multi-year award must fill out an annual progress report in order to receive the next three terms of their award. Reports should be submitted directly to jenna.mcconnell@carleton.ca for processing. The timing of the report is based on the start date of your award.

April 1 – May anniversaries
July 1 – September anniversaries
Dec. 1 – January anniversaries

Indigenous Winter Market

Please join the Centre for Indigenous Support and Community Engagement for the return of Carleton’s Indigenous Winter Market on Thursday, Dec. 1, 2022 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Atrium of the University Centre. This will mark the first in-person event since 2019.


Upcoming Award Deadlines

Application deadlines are approaching for the following awards:


Graduating in February? International Students can Extend their UHIP!

If Fall 2022 is your last term of study, your University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP) will be expiring Dec. 31, 2022. If you will be applying to graduate in Feb. 2023, you can extend your UHIP for 6 months (to June 30, 2023), or until such time as you may find you are eligible for OHIP (Ontario provincial insurance). The six-month premium of $378 (single) will be added to your student account. Email uhip@carleton.ca with enrolment request and proof that you have applied to graduate. Be sure to include your Carleton student ID number in your correspondence.  More information about UHIP can be found here.


Indigenous Scholars Awards and Supplements Pilot Initiative

The Government of Canada announced the launch of the Indigenous Scholars Awards and Supplements Pilot Initiative. Offered by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) and Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), the pilot initiative will provide, to the limit of available funding, a $5,000 supplement to qualifying Indigenous Canada Graduate Scholarships—Master’s program (CGS M) award holders, and provide a $17,500 award and a $5,000 supplement to qualifying Indigenous candidates who are on the waitlist for the CGS M program. Applicants will use the same application form and follow the same application process as for the CGS M competition.

Carleton's Newest Literary Magazine is Looking for Writers!

Sumac Literary Magazine is a new magazine for creative writers. Carleton students, faculty and staff are encouraged to submit their work for consideration by Dec. 31, 2022. Fourth-year students in English 4135B will edit the magazine which will be published online. The inaugural issue will launch in the spring.


COVID-19 Booster Vaccines

Ontario Public Health is offering a walk-in clinic for the COVID-19 bivalent vaccine on Monday, Nov. 28 and Tuesday, Nov. 29 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Fenn Lounge in Residence Commons. ​Individuals can receive the bivalent booster at the recommended interval of six months from their previous dose, or a minimum interval of three months since the last dose received, regardless of how many boosters they have already received. The clinic is open to Carleton students, staff, faculty and contract staff, along with their family and friends that are age five and over. Appointments are not required. Vaccination appointments are also readily available at community clinics and local pharmacies.


University of Ottawa Event Invitation

The University of Ottawa’s Interdisciplinary Centre for Black Health (ICBH) is inviting graduate students from Carleton University to gather for a discussion on Let’s Talk Black Health in Canada on Dec. 1, 2022 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. This event will be held at the University of Ottawa’s campus in Room FSS4004 at 120 University Private. New Canada Research Chair to Study Artificial Intelligence in Public Services

Adegboyega Ojo is the new Canada Research Chair in Governance and Artificial Intelligence (AI) at Carleton University.

The Tier 1 Canada Research Chair (CRC) recognition is awarded by the Government of Canada to outstanding researchers acknowledged by their peers as world leaders in their fields.The focus of Ojo’s CRC research is the development of governance mechanisms for trustworthy AI-enabled public services.

Writing Support by CSAS

Join the Centre for Student Academic Support (CSAS) this Fall 2022 term for their Academic Writing for English Language Learners sessions on Wednesdays from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Pick and choose the session that works for you or join all of them! Next session on Nov. 30, 2022 will focus on tricky prepositions (common combinations/collocations; prepositional phrases and wordiness; useful strategies). Nov. 25

  • Last day for summative tests or examinations, or formative tests or examinations totaling more than 15% of the final grade in the full fall or fall/winter before the official examination period (see examinations regulations in the Academic Regulations of the University section of the Undergraduate Calendar/General Regulations of the Graduate Calendar).
  • Winter Payment Deadline. Click here for important payment information. Late charges may be applied to the student account any time after this date.

Dec. 1

  • Last day for receipt of applications from potential winter (February) graduates.
  • Last day for graduate students to submit their supervisor-approved thesis in examinable form to the department.

Dec. 2
Last day for summative tests or examinations or formative tests or examinations totaling more than 15% of the final grade in the late fall before the official examination period (see examinations regulations in the Academic Regulations of the University section of the Undergraduate Calendar/General Regulations of the Graduate Calendar).

Dec. 9

  • Fall term ends.
  • Last day of full fall and late fall term classes.
  • Classes follow a Monday schedule (full fall and fall/winter term courses only).
  • Last day for handing in term work and the last day that can be specified by a course instructor as a due date for term work for fall term courses.
  • Last day for take home examinations to be assigned, with the exception of anyone conforming to the Undergraduate Examination Regulations (section 4.1 of the Academic Regulations of the University section of the Undergraduate Calendar or the General Regulations in the Graduate Calendar (section 9).
  • Last day to pay any remaining fall tuition fees to avoid a hold on access to marks through Carleton Central and the release of transcripts and other official documents.

Dec. 10-22
Final examinations in full fall and late fall term courses and mid-term examinations in fall/winter courses will be held. Examinations are normally held all seven days of the week.

Dec. 22
All take home examinations are due on this day, with the exception of those conforming to the examinations regulations in the Academic Regulations of the University section of the Undergraduate Calendar/General Regulations of the Graduate Calendar.

Dec. 25, 2022 to Jan. 3, 2023
University closed.
