Optimizing Water Treatment for a More Sustainable Future

Canada’s water systems are under growing pressure—from climate change and aging infrastructure to ever-increasing demand. Improving the ways we treat and manage water and wastewater are essential to protecting both public health and the environment.

At Carleton, Graduate Studies’ Associate Vice-Provost and Environmental Engineering Professor Onita Basu and her team of graduate students are developing practical, low-cost ways to optimize water treatment. By studying real-world contaminants and testing sustainable technologies, their research is helping communities adopt cleaner, more efficient systems. In partnership with industry, municipalities, and community organizations, their work is enhancing water treatment solutions for a more sustainable future.
