Purpose
This event aims to showcase and recognize outstanding research achievements by Postdoctoral Fellows who are part of the PSAC, Local 77000 postdoctoral union at Carleton University. The event will take place on December 10, 2024.
Award
The selected five (5) winners will receive $1,350.00 each. The prize money can either be taxed as employment income and subject to normal and usual statutory deductions or can be used as reimbursement for research-related expenses.
How to Apply
Postdoctoral Fellows may apply directly to compete for an award or they can be nominated by a colleague.
Postdoctoral Fellows who are interested in presenting their research are encouraged to apply via this form.
Eligibility
The following criteria must be met in order to qualify for the award:
- Applicants must currently be or have been a Postdoctoral Fellow as of May 1, 2023. This means they are eligible if they were employed as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Carleton University on or after May 1, 2023.
- Applicants currently appointed as a Postdoctoral Fellow must be part of the PSAC, Local 77000 postdoctoral union at Carleton University.
- Applicants who held a Postdoctoral Fellowship on or after May 1, 2023, but have since completed their fellowship, must have been part of the PSAC, Local 77000 postdoctoral union at Carleton University during their fellowship.

The deadline to apply is 11:59 p.m. (EST) Sunday September 29, 2024.
Selection Criteria and Event Format
Selection
A selection committee led by Graduate Studies will review all applications and choose up to the strongest twelve (12) to compete at the event, while taking into account equal representation of presenters across all Faculties, to the extent that is possible.
Event
Applicants will present their research to an interdisciplinary panel of judges from across the University who will select the five (5) winners. The event will take place online on December 10, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Applicants who are chosen to present will be assessed on the following factors:
- Assessment of Research & Publications
- Innovation of research conducted at Carleton University
- Significance of contributions to Carleton University and/or society
- Impact of the research on the discipline
- Publication, scholarly, or creative work record
- Assessment of Presentation
- Presentation was clear and concise
- Ability to effectively convey ideas to a broad audience
- Completeness of presentation
- Quality of answers to questions
