Create an IDP
Today’s job market is challenging. You need a clear idea of the type of career you want and a strategy for success. Engaging in professional development activities while you are still in graduate school can give you an invaluable head-start in the job market and bring added focus and direction to your academic work.
It’s never too late to set aside some time to evaluate and document your existing skills and set realistic short-term and long-term professional goals. One way to do this is through the creation of an Individual Development Plan (IDP).
You can download version 1.0 of our IDP template, the cuIDP, as a form-fillable PDF.
We are also offering a 2-hour workshop on a regular basis, titled “Establish Your Career Narrative by Creating an Individual Development Plan,” in which you can learn IDP basics and start working with the cuIDP template. The listings for this workshop will appear in Grad Navigate. All graduate students and post-docs are welcome.
Once you have taken the workshop, you can sign up for one-on-one IDP consultations with Karim, using the form below. Karim will help you identify your skills, clarify your career goals, and build a one-year action plan as part of your IDP.
