Registration for courses at Carleton is done electronically through Carleton Central. It is important that you familiarize yourself with Carleton Central as it will be your one-stop service for registration, student records, admission, and tuition fee information.

Registration Dates

Registration for the Fall 2024 and Winter 2025 term for all new and returning graduate students (including graduate exchanges and joint programs) will be available July 9, 2024 when Carleton Central opens for registration for new and returning graduate students (be sure to visit Step 1 of Registration in Carleton Central to view your registration start time).

You will be able to register for courses anytime after this date up until the deadlines posted for each session.

Conditions on Admission

In most cases, an Offer of Admission is made with one or more conditions. Before registering for classes, you must meet all of the conditions on your Offer of Admission. You can view these conditions on your Statement of Standing on Admission in Carleton Central. These conditions may include the submission of an official transcript indicating that your previous degree has been conferred or the submission of an official test score.

Terms and Conditions

When you accept your Offer of Admission and Offer of Funding, if applicable, you are also acknowledging that you have read and have agreed to the Terms and Conditions of Admission and Funding.

Course Selection

The Graduate Calendar holds the official policies and procedures for graduate level study at Carleton. You can also find a listing of courses and official course descriptions.

When selecting your courses for the term, it is important to first review your Statement of Standing on Admission and see if there are any additional program requirements which must be met.

You can also review the Program Requirements of your graduate program by clicking on the appropriate link via the Graduate Programs list. Please note that some departments may communicate specific program registration information directly to you. Should you have any questions regarding course selection, please contact the department to which you have been admitted.

The normal course load for a graduate student is approximately 3 to 4 courses per term. For specific information about which courses in which you should register for your program, please review the official Graduate Calendar or consult your department.

At any time you can build a sample timetable within Carleton Central or through the Public Class Schedule.

Registration

Prior to registering for courses, you should review and understand the General Regulations in the official Graduate Calendar.
