Greetings from the International Student Services Office (ISSO) and we hope this email finds you safe and well. We appreciate that the global COVID-19 pandemic poses unique challenges for our international community and want to take the opportunity to update you on key resources and supports available to you through our office.
Quarantine Planning Support
Currently all international arrivals are required to complete a mandatory 14-day quarantine period immediately upon arrival to Canada. Carleton University has established a new comprehensive website to assist students with their quarantine planning.
On this new website, students will be able to learn more about:
- Quarantine planning guidance and resources;
- Immigration and travel considerations;
- On and off campus quarantine options for international students;
- Health coverage; and
- Supports for staying connected and healthy during the quarantine period
Carleton University strongly recommends that students review the content fully and carefully to ensure that they are aware of their responsibilities as they plan ahead for the upcoming academic term. It is important to note that failure to comply with the Government of Canada’s protocols may lead to students being denied entry into the country. Fines or other penalties can also be imposed for non-compliance. Click here for more information.
Students are reminded that they should only plan to travel when it is safe to do. It is imperative students recall that only those who are exempt from the current travel restrictions are eligible to enter Canada at this time. Students with questions about the quarantine requirement and exemptions should contact the ISSO at isso@carleton.ca.
Financial Planning for Students Studying Outside of Canada
As a result of the Fall 2020 term being complete via online study, students residing outside of Ottawa/Canada may be eligible to opt-out of certain fees.
- The University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP) – International students who will be residing outside of Canada for the Fall 2020 term are eligible to opt-out of UHIP. Students can complete the Opt-Out Form on the International Student Services website or contact the ISSO for more details. https://carleton.ca/isso/uhip/uhip-for-students
- Universal Bus Pass (U-Pass) – All students are eligible to opt-out of the U-Pass service through the regular opt-out process. Please visit the U-Pass website for more information. https://carleton.ca/upass/opt-in-and-opt-out
- Carleton University Students Association automatically extends health and dental care coverage for students enrolled in 2.0 credits or more in the Fall term. Students whom are residing outside of Canada or have pre-existing coverage are eligible to opt-out. Please email cusa@cusaonline.ca for more information. https://www.cusaonline.ca/services/healthplan
