To all members of the Carleton community
In light of the recent announcement from Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health and the evolving recommendations from Ottawa Public Health, Carleton will be pausing its mandatory mask mandate starting June 25, 2022 – at the end of both the early summer term and our Spring Convocation season.
From June 13-24, thousands of students with their families and guests will be congregating on campus to celebrate the success of the classes of 2020, 2021 and 2022. In order to prevent COVID outbreaks and to ensure everyone can participate in their Convocation ceremony, masking as per the COVID-19 Mask Policy will remain in place throughout Convocation and in all university buildings and facilities until June 24. This decision honours our commitment to faculty, staff, students and guests who have chosen to participate in Convocation on the understanding that masks would be in use.
From June 25 onwards, even though masks will no longer be mandatory, we continue to strongly recommend masking when indoors, particularly if physical distancing cannot be maintained. For those who would like them, masks continue to be available to faculty and staff in eShop. We are aware that personal preferences regarding optional mask use will vary greatly, and we ask that we all show consideration and care for each other during this transition.
Please note that if pandemic circumstances were to change, the university may need to quickly reinstate the mask requirement and the vaccination policy. The University will continue to carefully monitor the situation and to align with evolving public health advice and government requirements.
Thank you for doing your part to help keep our community safe and for continuing to support each other through these challenging times.
Sincerely,
Suzanne Blanchard
