Sixty years ago, Carleton’s Psychology Department opened its doors.

The first Master of Arts degree (Psychology) was conferred on Elinor Burwell in 1961. A scholarship in her name was endowed in 1998 by her family and friends. Dr. Burwell taught in the Psychology Dept. from 1963-96.

June Pimm graduated in 1968 with the first PhD awarded not only in Psychology but in all of the Arts Faculty at Carleton.

“My decision to continue my studies at Carleton to the doctoral level enlarged my opportunities, and I consider this the best decision I ever made,” says Pimm.

Pimm currently holds the position of Psychology Coordinator of the Autism Initiative for the Ottawa Carleton District School Board.
